"We the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, questioning, queer, and allied population of Virginia Tech and the surrounding New River Valley area will work to promote an environment of equality, understanding, and harmony for people of all sexual orientations, sexualities, gender identities and expressions by providing an LGBT Resource Center and campus-wide programs to raise awareness, community visibility, and increase support." | Programming | ||||||||||||||
The LGBTA offers many different events and programs including the coordination of annual cultural celebrations as means of community celebration and exporsure to a variety of LGBT communities, partnering with campus and community groups to create co-curricular opportunities that help expand cultural knowledge, skills, and competencies, and supporting the retention of students through advocacy. | Membership | ||||||||||||||
There are no membership fees, but donations are always welcome. If you would like to donate money or LGBT literature or media to the Resource Center, contact lgbta@vt.edu. Membership is open to all students (undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral), faculty, staff, and alumni of Virginia Tech as well as to all residents of the New River Valley. The LGBTA does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, sex, gender identity and expression, disability, age, veteran status, or political affiliation. Any member present at an LGBTA general meeting has the right to vote on any LGBTA topic or issue. For a vote to occur, there must be a consensus to vote on an issue or topic by the members present at the meeting. |

| LGBT Support | ||||||||||||||
The LGBT Support Group meets every Monday night from 8 to 10 PM, usually in the Norfolk Room on the second floor of Squires Student Center. The meetings are completely confidential, and are a great resource for any issues you may have. You can also contact the Cook Counseling Center if you have an immediate issue.
