Bio - Sean is a Sophomore from Alexandria, VA. He enjoys hanging out with friends and getting to know knew people. Sean also loves all types of art. He plans on using his political science and Spanish majors to become a translator and or interpreter.

Role in LGBTA - Represent the organization and maintain contacts with the university administration, other campus organizations, and off-campus persons, organizations, and institutions; Initiate and emphasize outreach initiatives including but not limited to other student organizations, other university organizations, community organizations, and others; Act as a liaison with Multicultural Programs and Services and the LGBT Caucus; Work with and support each event chair to publicize their events.

 


Aimee Kanode, Vice President of the Interior

Interests - The Earth, makin' music, the food at D2 and Lindsay Lohan

Bio - Aimee Kanode, a junior, hails from the rather infamous Henry County. She enjoys makin' new friends and usin' apostrophes to make written text seem more colloquial. She's been known to throw down some Jay-Z at karaoke nights and be completely sincere about it. Loves xylophones but hates telephones; terrified of zombies and blue jello.

Role in LGBTA - To oversee and order supplies for the LGBTA Office; To coordinate programs and activities, information and relevant administrative duties with committees and committee chairs involving Day of Silence; To keep a record of all activities conducted during the general and Executive Board meetings, especially through the minutes; to work with the Director of the Resource Center to maintain, control, keep records, and update the LGBT Resource Center.

 


Jess Martin, AIDS Awareness Week Chair

Majors - Geography (Culture, Regions, Internat'l Development), Crop & Soil EnviroSci (Internat'l Ag), Environmental Policy & Planning

Interests - Hiking, camping, kite flying, outdoor adventuring, massage therapy, oral hygiene, foreign films, wearing big earrings, writing in cursive, picnics, alternative energy, infectious disease.

Bio - Jess is a native Virginian born during the week of the Sagittarius-Capricorn Cusp. This is her second year at VT, where she joined the Hillcrest Honors Community after mistakenly thinking that she would become a doctor and save the world before she could legally drink. Hemp, tie-dye, soy? Yes. Cows, ketchup, littering? No.

Role in LGBTA - To coordinate programs and activities, information and relevant administrative duties with committees and committee chairs involving AIDS Awareness Week; To delegate such duties as necessary.

Interests - Martial arts, swimming, parkour, rock climbing, computer programming, webcomics, and public speaking

Bio - Steve is a Sophomore from Richmond, VA. He loves writing stories, playing nerdy card games, and building large and useless contraptions in his backyard. He is a big fan of cosplay and has attended more anime conventions than he can count.

Role in LGBTA - To maintain and regularly update the organization's website; To manage any electronic discussion and announcement listservs for the organization; To keep records of the contact information for all Executive Board members and advisors; and To manage and update any other online resources or profiles for the organization.

 


David Merryman, Speakers Chair

Interests - Tae Kwon Do, reading, Video games, Going pretty much anywhere with friends.

Bio - David is a transfer student from Central Virginia, and is loving it here at Virginia Tech so far, and has come to think of Blacksburg as a sort of second home already. He's a tad on the shy side, but loves doing stuff with other people, especially if it entails goofing off.

Role in LGBTA - To coordinate programs and activities, information and relevant administrative duties with committees and committee chairs involving events designed as lectures, workshops, or any other event using a speaker not related to another Executive Board member's programming; To create committees and appoint committee chairs for specific programs approved by the Executive Board; To integrate and oversee all committee activities; and To reserve rooms for those events.

 

 


Marielle Neisler, National Coming Out Day Chair

Interests - Reading, video games, music, board games, politics, diplomacy, indie media, and activism.

Bio - Marielle is a Sophomore and male-to-female transsexual who comes from Stafford County (apparently fake Northern Virginia), who was born in Twenty Nine Palms, California. She loves reading online blogs about a variety of subjects, such as politics, indie gaming and developers, tech related stuff, queer happenings, and basically anything else that catches her interest. Generally quiet around people until she gets to know them better, at which point it is impossible to get her to shut up.

Role in LGBTA - To coordinate programs and activities, information and relevant administrative duties with committees and committee chairs involving events for National Coming Out Day; To create committees and appoint committee chairs for specific programs approved by the Executive Board; To integrate and oversee all committee activities; and To reserve rooms for all those events.

 

 


Sara Brickman, Gay Awareness Week Chair 2010

Interests - Reading, writing, genetics, culture, bonobos, television, pets, Chipotle, laser tag, camping.

Bio - Sara is a Junior from Northern Virginia. She enjoys sarcasm and slurpies, all kinds of games and being a huge nerd. Her ideal weekend involves good music, good people, and spontaneous plans.
